Visit New York City easily from our comfortable home overlooking the Hudson River. Open to all offers. We hope to visit Italy or Portugal in summer 2024.

New York City is just 40 minutes away by train - Broadway shows, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park, the Museum of Natural History . . . Our local train station is just across the street.
We are in Dobbs Ferry, NY, a small village along the Hudson River about 15 miles north of New York City.  Our home is an easy spot to discover Sleepy Hollow countryside as well as New York City.
Our home is 100+ years old with wood floors, a wood stove and exposed brick. We have beautiful views of the Hudson River from most rooms. The house features three bedrooms, three baths, a large living room / dining room, large kitchen, front porch and wireless throughout. We are a one minute walk to the Hudson Line of MetroNorth (40 minutes to Grand Central Station.) We are also a quick walk into town and to a walking/biking trail.
We have a patio and yard with a treehouse. We also have one cat and three chickens (but can hire a neighbor to care for the animals). Our daughters are Lisbet (23) and Kalle (21).
We have swapped about 6 times domestically and in Scandinavia, France, Germany, and Ireland and look forward to another wonderful experience.
ABOUT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Our home is in a small village, one of the “rivertowns” along the Hudson River, just north of New York City. There are restaurants, a library, pubs within an easy walk. The biggest appeal to our area, for most people, is New York City. Getting there is very easy from our home. We live across the street from the train station. It is 40 minutes to the center of Manhattan, to Grand Central Station.

On the other side of the train station is the Hudson River. There is a park with a playground and walking path. We have wonderful views of the Hudson River from our front porch; the barge traffic is the most interesting. On Wed. evenings in the summer there are jazz concerts at the riverfront park. We can sit on our porch and enjoy the music. People do not swim in the Hudson in this area; there is a town pool about a mile away and we do have a membership in a kayak club about 5 miles down the river.
MORE ABOUT OUR HOME
Our home is a three story stucco, about 113 years old. We have tenants in the basement level apartment. On the first floor is a large living room/dining room with a piano, woodstove, window seat, and exposed brick chimney in the center of the room. The front door opens on a porch—a pleasant place to sit in the summer. The new kitchen is in the back of the house and opens onto a patio.
The second floor has a bathroom/claw foot tub and shower, and two bedrooms. One has a double bed, the other has a queen bed. Both have ceiling fans. In the back of the house is a playroom with books, games and a projection system TV/DVD player. (This only works in the evening as it has to be dark outside.)
On the third floor is a bedroom with a double bed, bathroom with shower and sitting room.
Our yard has a small chicken coop. We also have two indoor cats.
Only our third floor is air-conditioned. (There is usually a nice breeze coming off the river.) And also know that we do hear the train from our house.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO
New York City
in our immediate area / not New York City
·      Historic Hudson Valley operates several restored colonial era properties in our area; their events are great fun for children and adults. http://www.hudsonvalley.org/
·      Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is about 15 minutes north of us. This is a hub of organic farming; wonderful programs for children, and beautiful walking trails in the woods and meadows. http://www.stonebarnscenter.org/about/blue-hill/
·      Walkway over the Hudson is about an hour north of us. We haven’t gone yet, but plan to go this summer. You can take the train there (with bikes and scooters) and walk high above the Hudson River in an old railway trestle bridge. This is apparently a bigger tourist attraction than the Empire State Building! http://www.walkway.org/
·      Old Croton Aqueduct: this is a walkway that runs through neighborhoods as well as in the woods. You can access it just up the hill from our house. Great for biking and walking. http://www.aqueduct.org/
·      The Bronx Zoo http://www.bronxzoo.com/ and New York Botanical Gardens http://www.nybg.org/alhambra/ are about a 20 minute drive.  They are adjacent to each other and close to the Little Italy section of the Bronx.
·      Yankee Stadium: see a ball game; it’s about a 20 minute train ride to get there. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/
