We have had eight successful exchanges - Chur, Switzerland (05) ; Graz, Austria (06) ; Paris, France (07) ; Deissenhofen , Switzerland (07) ; Neumarkt, Austria (08); Utrecht, Netherlands (08); Helsingborg, Sweden (09) and near Geneva, in France (10).

Our house overlooks Galway bay, and is very close to the sea, the harbour and the beach (about 200/500 meters). We are in a village just outside Galway city (5 kilometres). I have enclosed a plan of the house (see web site homepage). There is a small apartment fully self contained with its own entrance . Our tenant is very quiet and she does not have access to our garden.

Our Neighbourhood

Galway (75,000 people) is the main tourist city in the west of Ireland (www.irelandwest.ie). It is known for - traditional Irish music; good pubs; restaurants particularly sea food; crafts. The scenery is very nice. There are two theatres. Galway Arts Festival midJuly (www.galwayartsfestival.com). Galway is famous for horse racing. Race week is end July - early August (www.galwayraces.com) .

Barna has a supermarket, shops including a nice coffee shop, bakery and a health food shop. There are two very good sea food restaurant and a nice pub/restaurant.
This is the start of Connemara, a very scenic part of Ireland. A 40 minute drive will bring you to the ferry for the Aran Islands - well worth a visit. Across the bay and about one and a half hour drive is the Burren, a stony area with unusual flowers and plants. Near are the Cliffs of Moher.

Main airports - Dublin and Shannon. There is a small airport in Galway. Shannon airport 1.5 hours. Dublin is 3 hours by train (iarnrod eireann). Dublin airport about 3.5 hours. We could leave our car at the airport.
