Our house is in Gargiano, a little restored village dating back to the 13th century.
Originally, it was probably a stop post on the way used by the ancient pilgrims walking to La Verna, the mountain made sacred by Saint Francis. In its best period (16th century) it became a big farm, but slowly decaded in the subsequent centuries.
In the early 70's of 20th century, a group of friends fell in love with this idyllic spot in one of the most beautiful Italian valleys – the upper Arno valley – and decided to buy it. They restored it, divided it into indipendent units and sold them to friends only. That's why the whole park (13 hectares), as well as everything you can find there, is a co-ownership. It means you can freely ramble anywhere you want, looking for your favourite spot where to relax or picking some blackberries, nuts or hazelnuts.
Gargiano is in the South East of Tuscany, a beautiful area with plenty of natural landmarks (forests, torrents, lakes, etc), history (medieval towns, castles, churches, etc.) and... good food and wine!
The nearest villages are Rassina (1 km) and Bibbiena (4 km) where you can find all you need. The town of Arezzo, one of the main etruscan cities, is only 25 km far and you can easily reach all towns in Tuscany (especially Florence – 65 km – and Siena and the Chianti – 85 km) and in Umbria (especially Assisi, Spello, Gubbio, Perugia, Trasimeno lake).
The area has everything you need for a great holiday and it is particularly exciting during the summer, when many events are organised to suit all tastes. There is a lot to do (ask us if you have some special interest!); yet, the village and the valley surrounding it remain a quiet haven for you to return to, after a day full of fun.
