We live in the community of Elbow Park, one of the oldest residential neighbourhoods in inner city Calgary, only 5 minutes from downtown. The neighbourhood has tree lined streets and both historic and new single family homes. It has tennis courts and many parks and playgrounds so is great for children and for walking. Our home is half a block from the Elbow River and there are two playgrounds within a 2 minute walk of our house. Our neighbourhood is within walking distance of trendy 4th Street and 17th Avenue, both of which have numerous great restaurants and shops. You can also walk to Sandy Beach and access the extensive bike path system from half a block away.
Elbow Park is close (within a 10 minute drive) to numerous Calgary attractions, including Prince's Island Park, Fish Creek Park, the Calgary Farmer's Market, the Calgary Zoo, Herritage Park, the Calgary Reservoir (where you can rent sailboats etc.) and 4 golf courses.
Calgary has an amazing bike path system that connects the entrie city and our house is only half a block from the pathway system. A ride around the Calgary reservoir is an easy 1&1/2 - 2 hour return trip from our home which takes you through both urban and wilderness areas.
The Elbow and Bow rivers are also great for walks, bike rides and floating down the river on a hot summer day.
Calgary is home to the world famous Calgary Stampede each July. It is also a great place from which to explore the Rocky Mountains, one of the most spectaular areas on earth. There is world class fishing, golfing, hiking, rock climbing and skiing as well as breathtaking scenery in the Rockies. Kananaskis (45 minutes), Canmore (1 hour) and Banff National Park (1 hour & 15 minutes) are all very popular. The Badlands (2 hours) and Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump (2 hours) are also very unique and interesting areas where you can visit dinasour excavation sites and learn about Native American culture respectively.
Canmore is a gorgeous little town in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It has a fabulous river pathway system that is ideal for walking, running and biking. The hiking and skiing in the immediate vacinity is truly breathtaking. There are also 4 spectaular golf courses in and around Canmore. There is wonderful rock climbing, mountain biking, horse back riding, white water rafting and fly fishing as well. In the winter there are numerous ski hills including Sunshine and Lake Louise very close by. For cross country skiing the Canmore Nordic Centre is ideal. Heli skiing, dog sledding and ice skating are all popular in the winter as well.
Canmore itself is filled with great restaurants, cute shops and friendly people. There are many parks for children and a little lake for swimming in the summer. There is a recreation centre with a swimming pool. Because it is a small town everything is close and convenient, including grocery stores. Canmore is only 15 minutes from Banff where there is lots more shopping, restaurants and a movie theater.
Our Canmore home is located in the centre of town, half a block from the river and about 3 blocks from Main Street. There are playgrounds nearby and everything is within easy walking distance.
We are confident that there is something here of interest to almost everyone and we are sure that you will be comfortable in our beautiful home.

About Our Family
Dereck and I (Lindsay) are both lawyers. We work in downtown Calgary but we LOVE to travel! We have 4 fabulous children, all girls, ages 21, 15, 9 and 7. The eldest two girls are Dereck's from a prior relationship and they live with us every other week, although the eldest is now away at University and works summers.
We love the outdoors and being active. We enjoy hiking, golfing, tennis, biking, playing soccer and skiing.
Although we have travelled extensivley, we have only participated in three house exchanges. We have loved our experiences and look forward to many more. We are very keen to discover new cultures and are confident that you would be comfortable in our home.
We love to be outdoors. We love to hike, bike, golf, ski, and skate but mostly, we love to travel! We love experiencing new cultures, languages and environments.
