Our Neighbourhood

The town Poeldijk:
It is a friendly village of 6.000 inhabitants. All the shops are there, including a supermarket. In town are 5 restaurants. Poeldijk is 1.200 m from our house. In town there is a 15- or 30-min. bus-service to the next town Naaldwijk or the next city The Hague (Den Haag).
 The region:
is called "het Westland" and they grow tomatoes, cucumbers and a large variety of flowers in glass warehouses. The atmosphere is rural and the people are very friendly and will help you with anything. There are some museums in Westland and also worth while is a visit to the flower auction in Honselersdijk. A large swimmingpool is 3 km. away, but we prefer the sea. Quiet beaches or busy ones (whatever you prefer) are 5 km. away. You can park the car easily or go on bikes.
 Towns nearby:
The Hague: many museums, old center, lots of shops, railwaystation.
Scheveningen: old harbour of The Hague, but lately "uplifted", which means many tourists and touristy attractions. Madurodam is very nice : it is a miniature Holland.
Delft: beautiful, old university town 15 km. away; canals, boattrips, many museums, churches, railway.
Rotterdam: largest commercial harbour in the world, boattrips in the harbour possible, busy center, railway station and airport. Rotterdam was totally ruined in the war, so the architecture is all new, there are many buildings with modern architecture. Interesting museums.  Rotterdam is 1/2 hour drive from us.
Amsterdam is an hour drive from us. To visit that city is an experience in itself. Nearby is Schiphol, the largest airport of the Netherlands, ¾ hour drive from us.
Brussels: beautiful capital of Belgium is a 2 hrs. drive from here.
