Cozy family home in Eskilstuna, Sweden
Hi friends!
We are a family of four living in Eskilstuna, one hour from our beautiful capital city Stockholm. Madelene works as an art director and John works for the city Eskilstuna, developing ways for teenagers to have influence in society. Our boys Henry and Louie will turn 11 and 8 in the summer of 2023.
We live in a two story house with basement built in 1932, in total around 170 kvm. Our area feels rural and close to nature. We live by the woods and there are fields with grazing cows right nearby. But! A ten minute walk away is a great shopping centre with two big grocery stores and lots of other shops. The train station and the absolute centre of Eskilstuna is a 10 minute bike ride away.
There are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities in the area. In the summertime you can explore by bike, go swimming or maybe hike in the forest. We have some short but fun mtb trails right outside. Our closest lake, Borsöknasjön is about 2 km away. In the winter try skiing, ice-skating or hiking.
Downstairs there's a kitchen with a small-ish dining table, a living room with the coziest sofa known to man (probably), a large office/play/tv room and a bathroom with shower.
The master bedroom and the boys' two bedrooms are all upstairs, along with a 1/2 bath.
In the basement, besides storage areas we have another home office/craft room, a bathroom with bathtub, sauna and laundry station. There's also a garage with a pretty great workbench setup - should you feel the need to build och repair something while you're here.
The gem of our home is probably the garden and its large greenhouse/orangery. It's our favorite place to have a nice dinner or enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fireplace. In the outdoor kitchen there's a propane grill, as well as a Traeger wood pellet grill and a gas fuelled pizza oven.
On the wooden deck there's another dining area that stays shaded by the pergola most part of the day - great in the summer. The mini pool/giant hot tub is perfect for playing with the kids and cooling off in summer or stargazing through the hot steam of the water on a snowy winter night.
The garden also has a couple of seating areas here and there among the flowerbeds. A favorite of ours is sitting by the solar powered waterfall and just listening to the water trickling down. There's also a trampoline, slides, a swingset and loads of toys for the kids – both indors and outdoors.
We have a car for you to use during your stay. Take a trip to see the beautiful scenery, castles and picturesque towns outside of Eskilstuna (Sundbyholm, Gripsholm slott, Taxinge slott)! Or head in to Stockholm to enjoy the sights and museums of our beautiful capital.
There are also several bikes at your disposal, as well as seats for children.

Eskilstuna is a city with a long history. The area around Eskilstuna was well known in the time of the Vikings. One famous landmark is "Sigurdsristningen", a stone carving dating from year 1040. Another is the Rademacher forges built in the 1650s. It is the oldest industrial area in Sweden where craftsmen still are at work.
Eskilstuna is home to the famous Parken Zoo, one of Swedens most popular attractions. In the zoo you can see a wide variety of exotic and unique animals, like Asian lions, leopards and the renowned “Komodo dragon”, the world's largest reptile. Great for families!
