Holiday home in NOJA, north coast of Spain

Our home is a duplex in the beach, in a village called Noja, situated in the Cantabrian coast, in the north of Spain. Noja has two large beaches: Trengandín (5 minutes) and Ris (20 minutes) walking from our house. It is 25 minutes by car from Santander (a beautiful city in the coast), one hour from Bilbao (Guggenheim Museum) and less than 3 hours from Burgos (a historical city with the most important gothic cathedral).
The house is situated in the centre of the village, with restaurants, cafes, shops, tourism office and supermarket very near. Private parking and garden area.
This is also an area of wetlands of considerable ecological importance, justifying their inclusion in the Reserva Natural de las Marismas de Santoña and Noja.
The beaches north-facing orientation produces an abundance of long high tubular waves, making this an excellent spot for surfing, especially in a southerly wind. Its crystal clear waters and varied underwater seascape make for excellent diving.
But aside from its extraordinary coastline, Noja has other much appreciated features, as mansions and ancestral palaces in the 17th and 18th century, such as the Veneros and the Velascos. The parish church of Noja (seventeenth century) is the best exponent of religious architecture. Also worth seeing are the windmills at Garvixos and Victoria, built between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

In the neighbourhoods you can visit many traditional and beautiful villages (Santoña, Liérganes, Santillana del Mar…) diferent caves (Covalana, El Pendo, Hornos de la Peña) and Altamira Museum (one of the most important Palaeolithic museums in the world); Cabárceno Nature Park (an old mine covering 750 hectares is home to animals from all the continents in conditions of semi-freedom); Picos de Europa (the Fuente De cable car is a door onto the amazing natural landscapes of the Picos de Europa. It rises through 750 metres, leaving passengers at a height of 1,850 at the spectacular Upper Station with its exceptional views).
The board of culture, tourism and sport provides a wide range of resources to enable you to discover, appreciate and enjoy Cantabria in all its facets, from nature or historical heritage, from archaeology to art.
