Cottage in Skorradalur, 311 Borgarnes, Iceland-flexible timing
Dear intervac-friends, we are now especially interested in exchange of second homes, for perhaps a week or so. Non-simultaneously is a good option.
Our cottage is is situated in the beautiful valley of Skorradalur, 80 km. from Reykjavik, (120 km from Keflavik airport) in Western Iceland. 100 metres from the cottage is a beautiful lake, where trout fishing is popular. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, a living room and kitchenette plus a bathroom with shower. It easily accommodates up to 6 persons. On the deck there is a jacuzzi and a big barbeque-gril. Close by are good walking paths and many historic places to visit in nearby region. Also, a wonderful outside thermal swimming pool is in nearby town Borgarnes, with jacuzzi´s and childrens pools also.
We like to suggest these day trips from the cottage:
a) The famous Golden Circle; Thingvellir National park, Geysir hot Springs and Magnificent Gullfoss Waterfall.
b) Reykjavik, the cool capital, only 60 minutes drive.
c) The Snæfellsnes peninsula is 90- km long and comprises a world of diversity. With charming towns, rich history, and beautiful yet unique landscape. See https://www.west.is/en/west-iceland-regions/visit-snaefellsnes
d) Husafell – 45 min drive from cottage, at the foot of Langjokull Glacier. There is a great swimming pool, a great waterfall is on the way, Barnafossar, where clear water streams from underneath the lava, forming beautiful waterfalls. Once in Husafell, a trip to the Glacier tunnel in Langjokull glacier is right at hand. Or just hang out in Husafell and have a coffee or meal at the hotel and take a swim in the pool. https://intotheglacier.is/
e) A trip to Reykholt, 30 min. from cottage, which is a very interesting place, and a historical one. There, Snorri Sturluson, lived, and was killed there in sept. 1241. Snorri is one of our best saga-writers, and it is believed he is the author of Egils saga and Brennu-Njals saga. Norwegians know their history because Snorri wrote it down. There is a great museum in Reykholt, where you can see much about his life and work. Also a beautiful church. A must see place, Reykholt. On the same route is the biggest hot spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver.
f) If you like horse riding, there are places to rent a horse close by the cottage. Also a good swimming pools at least 4 other places not far away from cottage.
The road to the cottage is a good one and very well accessible for all cars except for November through February, when snow is common.
