House in Osmington, near Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom

We have recently moved from Oxford to the lovely county of Dorset on the south coast.
Having had twelve very successful exchanges during our years in Oxford, we are now looking forward to introducing exchange partners to the beauty of Dorset coast and countryside.

Our house is a spacious stone cottage set in a large beautiful garden, with the ruin of a sixteenth century manor house in the corner. Downstairs it has a long, beamed sitting room dining room and study, a kitchen/ breakfast room ( which is to be greatly enlarged in September of this year), a conservatory and a utility room.
Upstairs there is a main bedroom suite with superking bed, sitting area with double bed sofa, dressing room and large bathroom. The two other bedrooms each has its own bathroom. One has a kingsize bed and full size bunk beds, the other has a kingsize bed.
The house is set on one side of the valley forming the village of Osmington and has wonderful views over the Dorset hills. The garden is secluded and private, looked after by a gardener, and contains play equipment for our grandchildren. It has a patio for outside eating, with seating for eight plus.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Bournemouth, Southampton, Exeter - Heathrow is 112 miles, a 2 hr journey

Our village of Osmington is 5 miles from the seaside resort of Weymouth and 8 miles from the county town of Dorchester. We are surrounded by thatched cottages in picturesque green countryside and only a 5-8 minute walk to the sea, where we can join the South West Coast path. This is a 630 mile National Trail along the south coast, with spectacular walking.
In the village we have Craig's Dairy which sells essential food supplies and offers lunches, teas and amazing icecream. Other food shops are just a five minute journey away and a full range of shops is available in Weymouth and Dorchester.
There are also many local eateries, both by the beach and in lovely villages around us.

This is a wonderful area in which to spend a holiday. Driving around the whole of Dorset and further west in to Devon is a beautiful adventure. There are many attractions for children including Sealife and Sandworld in Weymouth. The famous Jurassic Coast reveals dinosaur fossils and museums.
Lyme Regis, known through the film ‘The Lieutenants Woman’ and Jane Austen’s novels, is within easy reach.

About Our Family

I am retired and my husband is more or less retired, but still doing a few expert witness reports in the field of civil engineering. Both of us have done a lot of business travel and, as Principal of a small Oxford college, I have spent many years recruiting students from right across the world
We have two daughters and one son. Our son is a university administration manager and he and his wife have an eleven year old daughter and five year old son. Our elder daughter is a human resources manager with three sons, aged thirteen, nine and seven and a twin daughter of seven and our younger daughter is a solicitor in London, with two daughters of five and three and a baby son of six months.
We see all our lively family fairly frequently despite the fact that they do not live close to us and we love spending time with our grandchildren ( while feeling that nine is enough ! )

Lifestyle

At home we both love to read, go to the theatre and concerts, eat out at our favourite restaurants, explore the countryside with our one year old standard poodle and take part in village activities. Jenny likes gardening, planning interior decorating and visiting historical sites ; John is very keen on computers, electronics and aeroplanes.
We have always very much enjoyed travelling and visiting new countries. Now we still like to travel to extend our knowledge of countries we know - including the UK !
