Large House in Canada's Wine Region of Niagara - about an hour from Toronto ~SUMMER 2018 Los Angeles PLEASE
For 2018, we are looking for Los Angeles, California for 1-2 weeks in May, July or August.
....we are always interested in long weekends in Canada and USA throughout the year if we can get away - just send a message...Cape Cod, Boston, California, Carolinas, Chicago, Quebec and other North American areas, for example.
For our European trips, we would prefer to be near a beach but not necessary, need to have use of a car and ***need to be able to walk to shops, markets and a restaurant(s) - so we can walk off all the good food from your country!
We would love to discuss a long term exchange in France for some time in the future after 2020.
Our spacious home is located in the winery region of Niagara in the town of Grimsby. We have 92 wineries in the region with events happening all year. Some of them have on site restaurants as well.
Our town is right on Lake Ontario and you can see Toronto across the lake. The small beaches in Grimsby have smooth small round rocks but a nice small sandy beach is only 20 mins away in the town of Port Dalhousie. Large shallow sandy beaches are found about 45 minutes away by car along Lake Erie. Of course, there are many huge shopping malls close by - every store you can imagine is less than an hour away from our home. Bring an empty suitcase!
Grimsby is a friendly town where strangers greet you as you walk by. Our summers are normally hot and sunny so you can enjoy the pool and gardens outside and air-conditioning indoors. You can sit in the sun or shade in our gardens, we are sheltered nicely with neighbouring mature trees where you can watch the birds and squirrels play.
Things to do locally:
~many shops and restaurants are less than 3 kms away. You can walk to the butcher, bakery and convenience store from our home in 3 mins.
~walk the beautiful Bruce Trail for excellent hiking
~walk to parks and playgrounds
~walk to local butcher and bakery shop in 3 mins walk
~splash-pad for kids at town hall
~wine tasting at one of the many local wineries (many have restaurants)
~farmer's market downtown on Thursdays, neighbouring towns on Wednesdays and Saturdays
~10 minute walk to recreation facility (YMCA) with indoor pool/gym etc
~sandy beaches about 20 mins away
~drive to Niagara Falls in 25 mins
~drive to Toronto in about an hour (also easy to take the train)
~drive to Montreal (French speaking) in about 6 hours
Our home has 5 bedrooms (2 with Queen beds, 2 with Double beds, 1 with fold out futon bed) and 4 bathrooms (1 has a shower and tub, 2 have showers). There are 2 large living rooms with plasma tvs, eat-in kitchen and separate dining room. The patio doors open to the back yard deck where you can enjoy a BBQ meal, relax in the new hottub or swim in the new inground salt water heated swimming pool. Because the new large pool is inground, we don't think our home is suitable for small children. We have a full basement with a large games room, Xbox, PS4, big screen tv, drum set, one of the bedrooms (queen bed), bathroom and full laundry room. We have free internet (wifi) and 4 flat screen tvs, many dvds. There are bicycles, fishing, camping & beach equipment in the garage to use as you wish.
Here are some sites about our town:
These wineries start less than a ten minute drive from our home:
This site shows more wineries, from 5-20 minutes away - many festivals, food & wine events - lot's to do!
We have experienced 4 exchanges in France (Saintes, Carcassonne, Brittany & Corsica) one in Holland, one in Spain, and one in Cape Cod, USA - all were fantastic! We have been renting summer cottages in Canada for 10 years and always respect the properties of others leaving them in perfect condition upon leaving.
Our children are well behaved and love trying new foods, visiting new places. Our sons play guitars, drums and saxophone and those instruments would be here for your use if you wish. Our automatic car seating 5 is included in your exchange with us. While Toronto is the most used airport, we are closer to Hamilton International and also Buffalo, NY if you wanted to search for flights that suit you better. If the dates line up we can pick you up at the airport.
Many guests to our home take a few days to explore our country's capital, Ottawa, and also the French speaking province of Quebec.
There are no bears or moose in our area! Some members have asked us about seeing bears in the wild - this is not recommended!! If this is something of interest to you, look in the more northern areas of Ontario or other more forested areas in Canada.
