House in WESTPORT, County Mayo, Ireland
In the last no of years, we had four wonderful exchanges in France with: La Rochelle -North Brittany-, Paris and Vannes -South Brittany- and the last one in Oxford, UK;
We are now keen to consider an exchange -if covid allows safe travelling-in Santander Cantabria Spain next Christmas 2021-2022. The 5 members of the family will be part of this exchange.
We are open to consider offers from abroad for the year 2022. Looking forward hearing from you.
There is something magical about our town, Westport. Friendly locals, lots to do and stunning views of Croagh Patrick. From spa resources to rock climbing and snorkelling, from child and family friendly activities to the Great Western Greenway (42 km cycle or walk trail) etc. The Clew Bay is at the other side of Westport, 15 min walk, but approx. 12 min away by car you can find the nearest beach;
Westport is a designated Heritage town and three times overall winner of the National Tidy Towns Competition among many other awards along the years. Westport was voted to best place to live in Ireland last 2012. Our town is situated along the beautiful and authentic west coast of Ireland. If you wish to know more about this town, please visit: http://www.destinationwestport.com/2012/06/27/wonderful-westport-named-the-best-place-to-live-in-ireland/
Westport is approx. 50 min by car from the Knock International Airport or the West of Ireland Connaught Airport. Other than this the airports that we use are Shannon- in the centre of the country (2.30 hrs) or Dublin (3 hrs 30 min) by car from Westport ;
We are a family of five who lives in a charming 1805 three floors terrace house right at the heart of Westport town. At the back of our house we have the access to our garden.
By next summer, our three children will be aged from 19 to 11 years of age.
We live at the heart of Westport with less than 3 minutes walk from all the town amenities and shops (supermarkets, Town hall Theater, banks, fishop, bakery, organic market, restaurants, pubs, cinema, public swimming pools, play ground, skateboard park, bike rental shops, railway public walking trails …etc)
The house is a typical Irish terrace with 4 bedrooms with 3 double beds and a bunk bed room, 1 bathroom and two shower rooms. One of the double beds can be made into two singles if needed and one of the double rooms has the an ensuite shower room. The room with the bunks is also our study.
In the ground floor are: the sitting room, the kitchen- dining room with a table for 6- 8 people, the utility room and the small entrance porch.
The kitchen, in the house extension, opens with french doors to back wooden patio. This is a very pleasant sun trap area next to the kitchen where you can enjoy your aperitif while preparing lunch.
We also have a long and narrow garden which overlooks the roof tops and the centre of the town as we live on a hill.
We are a non smoking family and we have an small dog but he will be away during the exchange. We would offer our 7 seater car and our two adults and two children (9 -13 y.old) bikes. There are several bike rental shops in Westport if needed;
There is also an open all weather tennis court in Westport or a covered tennis court in Castlebar (20 min away by car) if you like this sport.
Be ensured that we will all be most respectful of your house and your belongings.
