Historic House by the Sea - Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Now seeking exchange to Florida for Dec 2022 . LARGE HISTORIC AND NEWLY RENOVATED HOUSE NEAR COAST IN DUBLIN, IRELAND - NO CAR REQUIRED AS CONVENIENT TO PUBLIC TRANSPORT, ETC.
Hello Friends,
It is rare that you get an opportunity to have the best of all worlds - a large luxurious home just a few minutes walk from some of Ireland's most scenic coastline and only a few hundred metres from an historic town centre. All located in one of Europe's most vibrant, welcoming and culturally attractive capitals. Sailing? a trip to the Wicklow mountains? a short walk to the beach? catching a Metro line to the National Museum? or relaxing in our secluded garden? Travel to us on your yacht and dock in the local Marina? Have drink in an Irish pub and walk home? It is all possible from here!!!
Our home is a fabulous early 20th century Edwardian red brick house. It is spacious (260 square metres/ 2600 square feet), bright and with very tall ceilings (3.4M!!). It was fully modernised in 2013 and so offers all modern conveniences.
We are located in a quiet upscale residential cul de sac with but just a few yards from the historic town centre of Dun Laoghaire and so convenient to shopping and all amenities - restaurants, cafes, library, bars, food shops, galleries, etc. Our house is a short stroll of only 300 metres to the seafront - and only a 15 min walk to Sandycove beach. We also have excellent access to public transportation. We are also less than a 5 minute walk to the Glasthule/Sandycove DART station that will take you to Dublin City Centre in 15 minutes via the city's metro system. Dun Laoghaire is famous for its giant piers (when built in the early 1800s - they were the largest manmade habour in the world) and for its fabulous harbour - which is still a working Port and Ireland's leading centre for boating (our town has 4 yacht clubs and a municipal marina!). And I almost forgot to mention that we are less than 50 metres from one of Dublin's best Victorian parks - The People's Park - with its fountains, tearooms and playground. Our beautiful surroundings have also made us one of Ireland's main centres for English language schools.
Dun Laoghaire is located an area of rugged coastline, with seaside villages such as Bullock Harbour and Dalkey, Killiney Beach, historic Monkstown and hills such as Dalkey hill. It is also overlooked by the magnificent Wicklow Mountains - great for hiking or scenic drives. It has also long been home to some of Ireland's most famous celebrities - for example, it has close associations with writers such as James Joyce and Beckett (the Joyce Tower Museum are a 15 minute walk away). More recently, Enya, Bono, Bob Geldof, Sinead O'Connor, Chris DeBurgh and Moya Brennan (Clannad) are some of the past and current residents of our area.
The area is so convenient that a car isn't unnecessary unless you wish to visit rural areas of Ireland, in which case rental cars are available locally. There is a new cycle path close by.
Our accommodation includes:
A. 5 spacious bedrooms
Bedroom 1: A Kingsize bed, a walk-in closet and an ensuite bathroom/shower,
Bedroom 2 : A Queen size bed with ensuite bathroom/shower
Bedroom 3: One with double bed
Bedroom 4: 2 twin beds
Bedroom 5: Ensuite with queen Bed
(We would propose to lock one of these bedrooms with our belongings unless you need it).
B. 2 Bathrooms:
A large family bathroom with bath, power shower, etc
A convenient toilet/washbasin on the ground floor
C. Kitchen: kitchen with oak countertops and appliances - that doubles as an informal family dining area.
D. A large formal dining room with the original fireplace in place
E. A large living/reception room with beautiful bright bay windows.
F. For the kids, a fun playroom - that opens out onto our back garden - which is fully enclosed.
G. A dedicated utility room - with washer and dryer
H. Large spacious hallways with Victorian tiles
As for us, we're a friendly Irish professional couple - who work in the corporate world - with 3 lovely (and well-behaved) children. We take care of our own and other people's property! We have travelled internationally and lived abroad!! We look forward to meeting you!!! We would be happy to set up a virtual call to introduce ourselves.
Best wishes
Gareth and Breda
