House in a quiet residential neighbourhood close to the historical centre of Ghent
Our family friendly home is located at the end of a quiet street in front of a river and next to a nature reserve/park. We live 10 minutes cycling from the city centre of Ghent, the 3th city in Belgium.
We have an open living room with stove, dining place and kitchen with veranda, 3 bedrooms and a bath room. There is a large garden (Frontgarden en back garden) and carport.
We have a lot of toys, books, comics, dvd's, netflix and a PS3. You can use our bikes. In the garden we have a Ping-Pong table, different outside games and a BBQ.
Gent has an authentic city centre, museums and monuments, but is also a nice place to eat and drink.
Ghent is a compact, authentic city where the past and present co-exist in perfect balance. Walking through the city is like travelling through time: you turn the corner and just like that, you go from the fourteenth century to the twenty-first. In Ghent pounds the young heart of a cultural city filled with music, theatre, film and visual arts. Because of its central location in Flanders, Ghent is an ideal operating base to visit the Flemish Art Cities. Ghent is ready to welcome you with open arms.
Gent is between Brugge and Brussel.
- Gent is 40 km the beaches at the North Sea.
- Gent is 52 km from the capital, Brussels.
- Gent is 36 km from the historic city Bruges.
- there is a high speed train connection to Amsterdam or Paris (+/- 2 hours)
The largest nature reserve of Ghent, Bourgoyen Ossemeersen, has an entrance next to our house.
This unique open landscape comprises more than 210 ha of wet grassland full of ditches and streams. Tens of thousands of birds come to lay their eggs there every year to ensure the continued existence of their species.
Opposite our street there are ecological allotment gardens Boerse Poort. The surroundings of the house are very green.
In the south of Belgium (2-3 hour ride) are the Ardens which you can explore in a daytrip.
SPORTS AND LEISURE
Blaarmeersen is a marvellous area for walks with a vast lake. Swimming, kayaking, pedal boats, surfing, fishing and diving are possible here. There’s a water playground for children and a long sandy beach with a water-slide for all ages.

We like the simple things in life: spending time with family and friends, going for a bike ride, exploring arts and nature and showing it to our children.
We have only recenly started with home Exchange, so we are still discovering this new way of travelling and meeting people.
