Cosy family house near Lyon : ideal basecamp to discover the Alps, Burgundy and the South of France

Our house is an ancient house, fully renovated and comfortable, in a silent and semi-rural area (30 min drive to Lyons). *
The situation is quite practical : accessible by plane with Saint-Exupéry Airport or by train with TGV (high speed train).
You can enjoy barbecues and leisure time in the hammock in the garden, practice mountain bike or enjoy long walks in the woods and lands around. The Alps are very near (1h by car), as is Provence also (2h by car). Marseille is 3h away, and the Mediterranean Sea.
If you like French food and French wine, our region is THE place to discover. In Lyons, the home of "cuisine a la française", be prepared to enjoy many food-related activities and pleasures !

Our house is an old one, more than 100 years, build in "pisé" (it's a sort of traditional clay) but don't worry, we like our comfort and we renovated it quite fully ! The roof was fully changed three years ago and is brand new. We built a nice staircase in the entrance, and the kitchen applicances are also recent. We have a dishwasher, regular oven, microwave oven, washing machine and a drying machine. All in all, you may find our house :
- practical and comfortable
- quite modern inside
- traditional and even picturesque outside

We have wi-fi, TV (with way too many channels for my personal use) and PlayStation 3 for the kids. CD's and DVD at your disposal, books (in French & English) and lots of comics (those only in French).
In summer, you won't suffer from excessive heat because our garden contains many trees, and the walls of the house offer a nice protection against high temperatures.
The house is approximately 160m² on 3 stories. The 3 bedrooms are located upstairs and can accomodate 4 people, there's an extra mezzanine over the office (bed for 2), and an extra guest-room (bed for 2) can also be used on the ground floor.
We have a big barn in which you'll find a ping-pong table and bicycles for 2 adults and children.
Our garden is in the back of the house, very private (almost invisible from the street) and we have a hammock and relaxing chairs (very pleasant in summertime).
We have recently built a new room for dinners or lunches viewing the garden, it's very pleasant and fresh in the summer.

We regularly practice mountainbike and running in the countryside, accessible directly from the house without even taking a car.
There is a public swimming pool in the town of Villefontaine, a theater, a cinema and all necessary stores.

We live in a semi-rural area, which means you get the advantages of a little town (stores, cinema, numerous public swimming-pools etc.) but you can also evade rapidly in the woods and countryside, or go to "real" big cities !
If you like photography, you can take long walks to take pictures in the nearby areas.
If you like open air activities, you can ride bikes, even ride horses (there are several horse clubs around where you can go and ask for horse rides or horse lessons), run in the woods and fields around the town.

If you like to go shopping famous brands, like Cerruti, Polo Ralph Lauren or Zapa (at affordable prices), there is... The Village outlet : https://www.thevillageoutlet.com/. There are also shops for cooking apparels and cutlery at good prices.
It's very near, right in Villefontaine, near the highway entrance. It opened very recently. The place itself is pleasant to take a walk between the shops, and there are some trendy restaurants and bars.
If you like biking, you can use our mountain bikes and discover the many paths available in the surroundings.

But of course, if you come to our place, you must visit Lyon, the second largest city in France. The city was an ancient
Roman capital, and is definitely today's capital of French cuisine.
Lyon has been registered by Unesco as World Heritage.
The city hosts many famous museums, among them the Lumière Institute (museum of cinema), Fabric Museum (arts of Silk), and the famous Musée des Confluences. You can also visit The Parc de la Tête d'Or, a great zoo park, one of the oldest in Europe, and particularly well maintained.
Cosy cafés and typical streets await your visit as well. Lots of great shops, architecture and fine restaurants will make your stay unforgettable.
To go to Lyon, you have the choice : by car of course, but also by train or by bus. It's easy and we can guide you and give you directions.

In July, the bearby ultra famous Jazz Festival in Vienne is a must-go : www.jazzavienne.com/ but there are many other interesting events throughout summer in the region.
Medieval cities like Crémieux and Pérouges are very interesting to visit, as well as Grenoble and Chambéry, cities at the bottom of the Alps. The Alps are very near (77 kms). Picnics and treks in the moutain are a real treat in summer.

If you want to go south, the region of Valence and the Rhone axis will let you discover beautiful landscapes and rich wine areas. The landscapes are very different, change rapidly and give a feeling of visiting several countries in one.
There is also the particularities of the regions of Camargue and Provence : horse and bull breeding, lavander, olive trees and marvellous sceneries.
Even further but still accessible in a 3 hours trip by car, Marseille and the Mediterranean Sea.

About Our Family

Hello everyone ! I'm Sara, and Nicolas is my husband. We are very happy in advance to meet you !
We live near Lyons (south of France) and we have two children aged 15 and 13. We also have a cat (Cashew), very discreet and not allowed in the bedrooms. He mainly comes around when he's hungry, and should not be a burden for anyone while we're away.
We also have 3 hens, which will give fresh eggs every day. They are friendly too, and should not be too much trouble. All they need is some cereals in the morning, water, and free access to the garden. At night, they go back to their henhouse by themselves, and we only have to lock the door (to prevent predators from getting inside).
In any events, our neighbours would be glad to feed him to avoid any inconvenience for our guests. Because yes, we have nice neighbours ! In a semi-rural area like ours, it's a great gift.

We really enjoy discovering new friends and places through Intervac system. It's a great opportunity to open our perspectives. Let's discuss of what you'd like !
