Exchange dates Duration
December 13, 2018 - December 13, 2020 3 weeks

We are open to any offers, and can offer either simultaneous or non-simultaneous exchanges. If the exchange is close to home, we would consider stays of 1 week or more, but if it's abroad, we would prefer at least 2-3 weeks, and in either case, we could go for longer term exchanges under the right circumstances.

Comfortable home in suburban Victoria

Victoria is located on Vancouver Island, on Canada’s southwestern edge, about 30 minutes by plane from Vancouver or Seattle. We are fortunate to have both a vibrant urban environment and truly amazing natural landscapes — and seascapes — within minutes from our doorstep.

Our home is situated about 20 minutes by car or bus from downtown Victoria, offering fine dining, shopping, art galleries, open air markets and rich historic, cultural and recreational opportunities. Victoria’s Inner Harbour, in the heart of downtown, is home to the famous Empress Hotel, the world class Royal BC Museum, and the Provincial Legislative Buildings. Outside of the downtown core, you will have quick access to coastal recreational opportunities, and a natural environment that is breathtaking. Favourite pastimes include golf, walking, hiking, biking, boating and beachcombing — and we are fortunate to be able to do these year-round, and within 1/2 hour from our home. Day trips from Victoria include taking a ferry to one of the smaller Gulf Islands (to see quiet rural island communities, and perhaps see some local sea life like whales, porpoise or seals, on the journey over), or driving ‘up-island’ (where you could see a coastal rainforest, visit our local wineries, or with a longer journey, see the wilder west cost at Tofino, or visit our ski hill at Mount Washington). Our home is in a suburban area with easy access by car to downtown, the airport, ferries and highways to the rest of Vancouver Island. While we do have bus service at our doorstep, we can talk about access to our car for our house exchange visitors. There are several amenities within walking distance, including a walking/cycling trail, a grocery store, liquor store, several restaurants, and a full recreation centre with workout facilities, a swimming pool and library.

We have a comfortable detached single-family home, on two floors, with a living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and two baths upstairs, and a large sitting room (with TV), an additional bathroom and a laundry room downstairs. Both bedrooms have a queen size bed. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and the second bedroom is adjacent to the main bathroom. We have a large, private yard with a two decks off the main floor of the house and a small patio off the lower level — and plenty of space to sit or eat outside.

Features of the home include:
* patio doors off the dining room to a roomy deck;
* well appointed kitchen with gas stove, microwave, dishwasher and large refrigerator;
* propane barbecue on the deck, along with outdoor dining table;
* internet, wi-fi, and TV;
* washer and dryer in the laundry room; and
* large, private yard.

About Our Family

We are a couple in our early 60's, with two adult children, both living in Victoria, but in their own homes. We have recently retired, so are anxious to spend more of our time traveling than we were able to before. While it's typically just the two of us traveling, we may wish to travel with another couple on occasion, should this be able to be accommodated, but we will always talk with our home exchange partners about this beforehand.
