Short breaks in the UK. Sicily September 2023. We will stay home in August 2023! |
House in FROME near BATH, Somerset, Great Britain. Nearest airport Bristol 1 hour, London Heathrow or Gatwick 2.5 hours by car.
We love Intervac and have completed many fantastic exchanges over the past 20 years we are currently looking for an exchange in Sicily in September 2023.
We are retired teachers and are flexible with our time. We plan to stay in the UK for summer 2023 and are planning a nice slow drive to Sicily in September 2023.
Other plans for the future: We would like to combine an exchange with a visit to our daughter who is studying in Phoenix Arizona. We love hiking, and exploring the great outdoors and are happy to consider all offers that could enable us to get close to nature and wilderness, particularly in the South Western USA the Flagstaff or Sedona area would be wonderful but we'll consider any offers in the South West USA.
Our historic market town is a great destination in the South West of England. You'll find plenty of information online, it is regularly featured in the media as one of the best places in England to live/ visit. https://www.discoverfrome.co.uk/frome/frome-in-the-press/ can be helpful.
You will find Bath, Stonehenge and London are easily reached from Frome.
We have a VW Passat (manual) we would be happy to exchange with you and lots of experience to offer, our first ever exchange was to Seattle in 1999 and we have been Intervac-ing ever since.
A bit about us: We are a family of four, Gary and Tamsin are both teachers and have older children who may join us on holiday, our son aged 22 and daughter 24 (both studying at University) . The family have grown up with home exchanges and we will take the utmost care of your home. We have completed over 29 Intervac exchanges, both in the UK and around the world.
OUR HOME Our house is built of local stone and originally dates from about 1750. It has been fully renovated and is in the middle of this small market town at the end of a terrace on a very narrow street. There is a private parking place opposite the house. There is very little traffic our street, but many people walk by the house on the way to the town centre.
There is a fantastic market on the first Sunday of each month (though this is paused during Covid) 'Frome Independent'when the whole town is full of local produce and crafts. There is also a smaller market each Wednesday and Saturday.
Our home is arranged over three floors and the heart of the home is a large kitchen dining room which leads onto a small sheltered courtyard garden. The first floor has two good sized bedrooms and a large family bathroom and the second floor has a large guest room and the master bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
OUR LITTLE TOWN Frome is an historic market town with a population of 30,000. It has old, narrow streets of the town centre twist up the surrounding hills. We are very close to the St Catherines district of the town. The historic and trendy Catherine Hill with its cobbled street is at the end of our road and has some great coffee shops and many vintage independent shops to enjoy. There are many interesting historic buildings within the town. Frome has a Sports Centre (with gym, swimming pool, badminton and squash courts etc), two theatres, a cinema and an Arts and Crafts Centre. There are two parks that have good childrens' playgrounds within walking distance. Our house is in a residential area and very well situated in the town, it takes a few minutes to walk to the town centre, and yet in ten or fifteen minutes one can walk to the edge of the town into open countryside. We have a vegetable plot on an organic farm on the edge of town and you are welcome to harvest our produce whilst you stay. Frome is surrounded by very beautiful countryside and woods, fields, hills, rivers, villages and lovely country pubs are all within easy reach by foot. We have lots of maps and the area is great for walking.
