Donegal
We are open to all offers but we are especially interested in visiting Germany as one of our sons works there and would likely join us for a few days.
The house in Donegal is our holiday home - we live in Dublin - but it is very well equipped because we go up a lot (Elizabeth spends a lot of time there looking after her mother who lives nearby). It is a 2 storey house with a big garden and a vehicular entrance off-street to the side. On the ground floor there are 2 double bedrooms, a study/computer area (with another pull-out double-bed), a bathroom and utility area. Upstairs there is a kitchen-diner, a bathroom, 1 double bedroom and a large sitting-room. So 6 can sleep in bedrooms - and if necessary 2 more can sleep on a pull-out bed (but its not private!.)
The house does not have a fixed/permanent internet connection. We use our mobile phones when using the computer here (there's also a printer). We can provide a mobile phone with internet access for your stay if needed. The house has TV, DVD player and satellite channels (UK, IRL, DE).
The house was originally built in 1908 but has recently been fully refurbished. It is located on the main street of a small town, Ballybofey, within walking distance of all the town's services and amenities. It is an ideal location from which to visit and tour Donegal, the north/west of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way. We are able to exchange for up to 4 weeks. We might also be able to make our house in Dublin available for a few days during your visit, e.g. arrival/departure.
Unfortunately due to a cat allergy we are unable to exchange with people who have cats.

We have booked a holiday to China in November 2026 so ideally don't want to do another long haul trip in 2026 but can arrange a non simultaneous exchange for 2027 if an offer was made. We are ready and able to do any destinations in Europe or within a 3-4 hour flight from Dublin. As we are exchanging our second home we are flexible with our dates. |

Neighborhood
About the neighborhood
Our house in an area ideal for visiting the North-West of Ireland and areas of Northern Ireland. If you love the outdoors then Donegal is the place for you. Less than 2.5km from the house there is a golf course (www.ballybofeyandstranorlargolfclub.ie) and tennis courts ( www.butthalltennis.com). There is also a 25m swimming pool with a gymnasium in the local athletics club 1.5km away (www.finnvalleycentre.com) The river Finn flows nearby which divides 2 towns known as the Twin Towns into Ballybofey and Stranorlar. This is a great river for salmon and trout fishing as well as beautiful walks in a small forested area that lies beside the river.
The town lies on the route of the Wild Atlantic Way (www.wildatlanticway.com). Donegal is a beautiful county (National Geographic voted it the coolest place on the planet to visit in 2017), it is amazing for hill-walking, we have incredible sandy beaches and the highest sea cliffs in Europe at Slieve League (www.govisitdonegal.com)
Malin Head, the most northerly point in Ireland is less than 100km with the City of Derry in Northern Ireland being about half that distance. The Giant's Causeway is approximately 115km and Belfast is 157km away (www.visit-belfast.com)
As we are located in the town, we have all the convenience of supermarkets, banks etc on our doorstep. Beaches are located from approximately 30km away although our favourite one at Rossnowlagh is slightly further at 45km which is great for surfing.
If you like Culture, the Balor Theatre holds various productions throughout the year as does An Griannan theatre in nearby Letterkenny
Horse riding can be arranged at Gallaghers Equestrian Centre (www.gallaghersequestriancentre.com).
Glenveagh National Park and castle with it's Golden eagles and red deer is 40km (www.glenveaghnationalpark.com).
Also we might be able to make our house in Dublin available for a few days. It is located in Phibsborough near Dalymount Park (Bohemians FC). But that would depend on discussions with an exchange partner.

Ron and Ute are a lovely couple and their home is very welcoming. We spend a delightful two weeks in Markkleeburg and really enjoyed exploring this part of Germany which we had never been to before. Germany really is a totally underrated holiday destination because there is so much much to see and do there (more than France even we think - and that is the Number 1 Tourist country). We cannot wait to get back there to visit again. Wishing Ron and Ute all the best and many happy exchanges. Best wishes Dominic & Elizabeth Molony

Dominic is a Civil Engineer and Elizabeth works in Local Government. We have 3 adult sons aged 33, 31 and 30 but they no longer live with us. We have done many exchanges in the past but family commitments meant we had to take a break for a few years. Our first exchange was in 2001 and our most recent one was to Córdoba, Spain in 2025.
As set out in our home description our youngest son lives in Berlin and we'd very much like the option of he and his girlfriend being able to join/visit us if we arrange an exchange in Germany but this is not essential. We visit Berlin a few times per year and would also be interested in exchanging there.
