Welcome to La Creuse
Dream of relaxing in the French countryside, then this is the house swap for you.
Come and enjoy the calm, relaxed way of life here.
Our 2 story stone house was built in 1906 and added onto in 2017. Then major renovations took place in 2022/2023.
The first floor (where you will be sleeping) consists of 2 bedrooms. One has a queen size bed (160 x 200) and the other bedroom has a double bed (150 x 190). Both bedrooms have bedside tables, lamps and tables for luggage. They have both been recently renovated with a new ceiling and new walls, freshly painted, new rugs.
On this floor is also a large bathroom with a shower over bath arrangement, toilet, hand basin and heated towel rail. This has also had a new ceiling and new flooring and fresh paint (January 2023).
There is also a large office with 2 desks and a bookshelf and large cube unit which has board games, books, CD and DVDs. We have very good Wifi.
You will also find a large linen room with extra blankets, doonas, pillows, towels, sheets etc.
On the ground floor is a well stocked large brand new kitchen - Jan 2023 - with all new appliances (except for a coffee machine as we like to go out for our coffee fix), new lounge room and dining room with large doors opening to the front of the house. The house faces south so receives the beautiful French sun. These rooms have also had new ceilings, walls and new tiles in Jan 2023.
There is a slow combustion heater and we will provide some wood and kindling if swapping during the colder months.
The extension to the rear of our house consists of an anteroom and craft room. As well as a fully equipped laundry including double trough, washing machine, dryer and extra fridge/freezer and another bathroom with shower, toilet and hand basin.
There is electric heating and 2 fuel heaters. Overhead fans are located in the kitchen and office with extra pedestal fans if needed.
We have a beautiful terrace at the back of the house which has shade, barbeque, tables and chairs.
You will require a car as there is no public transport - we would consider a car exchange depending on circumstances. You will need an Emission Sticker for your car if travelling into certain larger towns or cities of France.
Also note - we have an attic bedroom on the 2nd floor which has a king size bed (180 x 200) and new full bathroom (Our bedroom). The use of this bedroom can be discussed if more room is required. So potentially the house could sleep 6 (3 couples) although our preference is only swapping with couples or 2 couples as our house is not suitable for children.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Limoges - 89
Our village is very small with about 50 inhabitants. There are a number of secondaire maisons.
We are situated in a rural part of France where there are wonderful areas for walking (randonées/hiking). Many lakes and picnic areas. Lots of little villages to explore and not too far from the Central Massif where there's skiing at Le Mont Dore (about 1 and a half hours drive). Great area for eBiking.
The nearest amenities are 10 kms & 14kms away so you will need transport. You will find a supermarket, 2 boulangeries, 2 cafes and 2 restaurants, plus 2 pharmacies, doctors, post office, banks and tourist office in Gouzon. There is a small market each Tuesday. A larger village 14 kms (Boussac) has more restaurants, fantastic markets as well as the usual banks, post office, hairdressers, pharmacies, large health centre. Markets in Boussac are on a Thursday and definitely worth a visit.
There are many larger towns within or just over an hours drive such as Limoges (Porcelain capital), Montlucon, Gueret, Chateauroux (train station connection), Aubusson (tapestry capital). There are great market towns as well such as Felletin (Fridays), Argenton sur Creuse( Saturdays) Gargalisse (beau village), St Severe, Chambon sur Vouieze, La Chartre plus many more.
The church at Moutier d'ahun is a must to see as very unique.
Being in central France is handy also as you can be in many different countries in less than half days drive.
Our neighbours are all french and are just lovely and welcoming.
We have some wonderful English families in the next village over.
We had snow in our village on Christmas Day 2020 which was magical (especially for Australians that are used to it being 42 degrees on Christmas Day).

About Our Family
We will respond quickly to all requests.
We are a retired Australian couple living in La Creuse, France since 2016.
Bill 65, Information Technology Manager and Wendy 60, Online Communications. Married 40 years in Sept 2023.
We are open to all destinations. For 2023 we would love to visit Norway and Italy and would be keen for a swap of around 2 to 3 weeks. We would also consider other destinations and are not limited to school holidays. So anytime of the year is possible. From a few days to a few weeks or a few months.
We are keen to receive home exchange requests. Open to short or long term swaps.
We can be flexible with the dates. We are non-smoking and extremely clean, tidy and considerate and will take great care of your property as we would expect of you with ours.
Our preference is to ensure we have a dedicated parking spot/area,
We would prefer to swap without pets to care for as we might be away from your home overnight for a few days depending on the swap.
Our house is not suitable for young children.
Depending on the time of year, watering may be necessary.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you want more information or if you want to use Skype or What'sApp.
It's usually the 2 of us travelling. We have 2 sons who live in Australia. We have one grandchild and another on the way.
Happy to discuss options. Even if it were for a shorter period, if you are interested then please get in touch.
So surprise us with your offer to swap.
