An ideal spot for exploring the south and south west. A rural haven, just 3 miles from a lively town.
I live 3 miles outside Killarney in a quiet rural area, with a great  view of Ireland's highest mountain range. My cottage was renovated by a German architect for his own use before I bought it. Everyone who visits loves it. It is like a doll's house: open area downstairs plus bathroom and kitchen areas, with a spiral staircase leading to two small bedrooms. I have built on a study (which can become a third bedroom) en suite, and a "light room" for relaxing in the evening, looking over the back acre. The front of the house looks over a broad sweep of fields, usually full of cows or horses, rising to the mountains with a constantly changing pattern of light and cloud. The cottage sits on an acre, half of which I have turned into a lawn, the other half I'm working on!
The scenery around Killarney's 3 large and 30 small lakes and woodlands is justifiably famous: eg:Tennyson's words written on his honeymoon in Killarney:
The splendour falls on castle walls. the snowy summit old in story.
The long light shakes across the lakes & the wild cataract leaps in glory...
But you are only half an hour too from the wild Atlantic ocean and wonderful beaches with many opportunities for boat trips to see the seals and whales and dolphins that abound around the coast of Kerry. Kerry is soaked in history and is famous for its dramatic landscapes and scenic golf courses. Look up www.wild atlantic way.ie for further detail.
The town of Killarney is very lively, for those who like entertainment and music. There are horses and bicyles for hire, and so many different walks and castles to be explored. Killarney is also an ideal midpoint for further exploration of the whole southwest. It is beautiful in April and May when the bluebells and wild garlic are in full bloom in the woods and the rhododendron starts blossoming on the hills and roadside. September is my favourite time with the dawn of the autumn colours, and while tourist facilities are still open the rush of summer is no more. Groups from England, Scotland, Wales, France, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, USA and Canada have all come and enjoyed themselves in my house.
This part of Ireland is full of ancient sites - pre and early Christian. It is close to the Gaelic speaking areas, resounding with Irish traditional music and singing pubs. Tralee has the national folk theatre Siamsa which vividly presents life as it used to be. There is just so much to see in this area.
I am a retired teacher, and would be accompanied either by 2 friends or by my older sister and her husband. We would take the greatest care of your place. Further information on the area from www.corkkerry.ie & www.ireland.ie & www.goireland.ie

Our Neighbourhood

To find my house you go along the R877 past the Cathedral, then onto the N72 from the roundabout past Lidl, take the next left along the N22, and the first left at the Aghadoe sign the L2019, up the hill, the first right at the top, again following the Aghadoe sign until you see the Aghadoe Heights hotel on your right, the lakes on your left.
