A modern town house close to the mediaeval old town of Amersfoort (European City of the Year 2023)
Our Town house is located just outside the historical old city of Amersfoort. Amersfoort has been awarded the prestigious title ‘European City of the Year’ in 2023. The Old Town offers good cultural activities, nice restaurants, café’s and shopping.
“Known mostly for its surviving mediaeval old town and famous city gate, it’s a great alternative to fill that canal craving in a Dutch city much less crowded than Amsterdam.”
Our house (140 sqm) consist of 3 bedrooms (one double and two singles), 2 bathrooms and an open plan kitchen/living area. It has all facilities that you would expect from a modern house. We also have a small city garden (south facing). There is a private parking spot in a garage. For transportation we have bicycles available (“how Dutch can you go?”) and (when agreed) an estate car. All can be done by foot. It’s a 10 minute walk to the mediaeval old town, and the closest (biological) supermarket a 2 minute walk.

We are a Dutch-Belgian family of four and we are new to the home exchange adventure. We have been travelling using AirBnB over the past decade but have experienced that the initial authenticity of the platform has disappeared over the years. We would like to travel to different places to experience the local culture, food and nature. We are open to exchanges with people from different countries.
From our house it’s a 10 minutes’ walk to the central railway station with easy access to other nice cities, like Amsterdam (30 min), Utrecht (15 min), The Hague (50 min) or Rotterdam (50 min). If you prefer nature, the De Hoge Veluwe National Park is also close by. There is a convenient direct train connection to Schiphol airport (40 min). Belgium and Germany are not too far away either, by car for example: Antwerp (1.5h), Brussels (2h), Dusseldorf (2h) or Koln (2.5h).

Amersfoort is a very historic and attractive city to the west of Amsterdam. It has many fine medieval buildings that are well maintained. It is a busy place with a population of just under 160,000 people, but the town centre is easily explored on foot, with most of the main attractions being easily within walking distance. The railway station is one of the busiest in Holland with several tracks converging on the area.
