Our Neighbourhood

Lassay-les-Châteaux is a central spot for day-trips to Le Mont St Michel - 1.5hr, St Malo - 2hrs, Bayeux - 1.5hrs, Le Mans - 1.3hrs, Honfleur - 2 hrs. It is situated the Mayenne Department and is within the Normandy-Maine Natural Regional Park.

If you prefer to stay local, the Mayenne has one of the best cycling trails around - 85km following the Mayenne river, in unspoilt, traffic-free surroundings. See: http://www.tourisme-mayenne.com/en/Discover/The-Mayenne-valley/The-towpath

The Lac du Haute Mayenne is a 15-min drive away and ideal for windsurfing, boating, swimming and horse-riding. See http://www.parcdevaux.com/les-animations-et-loisirs#/images/1/_841.jpg

From Lassay itself, you have a choice of walking tracks, two of which have hidden sculptures along the way. The local swimming pool, rose garden and medieval garden are a stone's throw from the house where you can sit back and enjoy the tranquility.

About Our Family

We are a couple in our early 60s with grown up children. They have flown from the nest now, but your children are welcome. I'm originally from New Zealand and Patrice is French and we love visiting different regions in the world. We believe strongly in this opportunity to get to know other families and to base our exchange on mutual trust and understanding.

This year will be our first exchange, so please get in touch if you're tempted by our house and peaceful environment in Lassay, France.

Lifestyle

During your stay, you can help yourself to the fresh organic vegetables from our 'potager' that we share with two other neighbours. The local baker and butcher are a 1-minute walk from the house, as is the local grocer and there's a bigger supermarket 1km up the road.
There are lots of walking tracks and cycling circuits in the area : a rail trail and towpath in the vicinity and little country roads in this quiet rural part of France.
During the summer, there are various gardens, exhibitions, châteaux and concerts to visit, there's a local treasure hunt, summer activities at Lassay Châteaux. The family 'vélo-rail' track at St. Loup du Gast and go-karting at Montrueil-Poulay are about 10 minutes away by car.
