Modern, comfortable home in small village, Co Kildare, Ireland

We live in Kilteel, a quiet rural village in County Kildare near the border with Co. Dublin and Co. Wicklow.  It is 40 mins to Dublin city and 10 mins to the start of the Wicklow mountains. The village has a lovely pub, a small church, Romanesque castle ruins and an ancient oak wood. We have open countryside at the end of our garden but we are only 6 km from the nearest shops, main road networks, bus and light rail access to Dublin city.

Our home is a detached, single story house with a living room, kitchen/dining, three bedrooms, workroom, 2.5 bathrooms and a tv room/den upstairs, accessed by a spiral staircase. The house is bright, uncluttered yet comfortable, with under floor heating and a wood burning stove in the living room. We have a modern kitchen overlooking the back garden and rolling countryside. The kitchen has all the usual appliances and there is a utility room with washing machine and freezer. The master bedroom in ensuite with a queen size bed. The second bedroom has a double bed (4'6") and the third bedroom has a two single beds. .

The house is set in a secluded garden with a raised decking area, a wooden gazebo and a vegetable plot. The back garden runs down to open fields where cattle and sheep graze. Although the setting is rural, the house is in the centre of the village, with friendly neighbours and is a short stroll to the pub which has traditional music on Friday nights. There is excellent fibre broadband and satelite TV.

There are no shops or public transport in the village so a car is essential. We are happy to exchange cars.

We have a small studio apartment in the garden, suitable for two people, which may be available for non simultaneous exchanges.

About the neighborhood

The location of our house offers the best of both worlds: a rural aspect yet within a few minutes drive of major road, bus and light rail networks. Within a short drive of the house there are many activities that you can participate in
·         International standard equestrian centres
·         Famous horse race tracks (Punchestown, Naas and the Curragh)
·         Numerous golf courses, including the K-Club which hosted the Ryder Cup and the Smurfit European Open.
·         Blessington Lakes with kayaking and other water sports
·         Mondello motor racing track, offering circuits suited to beginners and experts.
·         Hill walking in the Wicklow mountains or canal walks along the Grand Canal.
·         Russborough House and gardens, home to the Alfred Biet art collection.

For those who like to shop, there are many small towns and shopping centres within easy range. Dublin City Centre is just 25km away and the east Coast with its many walks and beaches can be reached in 35 minutes. Kilteel is a rural retreat yet it is only 6 minutes to major road networks - you can drive to Cork and Limerick on the southern coast of Ireland in two hours, Galway and Connemara on the west coast in 2.5 hours and Northern Ireland in about the same time.

The chldren are adults and it is unlikely they will travel with us. We have traveled extensively in Europe and have had two wonderful Intervac exchanges in the USA and one subsequent visit back to California to the house of one of our exchange partners.  We currently enjoy travelling in Europe by train and would like to incorporate an exchange with our next Interrail trip in June 2026.

We are both retired.  Our interests include current affairs, reading, interior decoration, crafts, art and involvement in our local community.
