A beatiful house in the historical town Mechelen, located in a cohousing

This house is a unit within a cohousing (25 units in total). It has its own small private garden, and a very large shared garden (incl. slide, swings, big sandy playing area). The house (115m2 in total) has a very spacious living room and open kitchen (70m2) with a more than 4m high ceiling, a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet, a second toilet, and two bedrooms upstairs (the childrens room is rather small but contains a bunk bed with an extra mattress that can be pulled out from beneath). The structure used to be a closter school, and was renovated into houses and apartements just three years ago. The house is almost energy neutral, and is equiped with floor cooling and air control, which means even with very warm temperatures, the house remains fresh. The house has lots of windows, so you can always enjoy enough daylight. Two kids of 6 and 2 live here, so the house comes equiped with plenty of games and toys. The neighbors of the cohousing are friendly and calm, happy to chat and give advice, but also happy to give you all the privacy and quite you need. Our bikes and kids bikes are availaible for use; many places are reachable by bike. There is space to park a car as well.

About the neighborhood

Mechelen is a small historical town with lots of interesting historical buildings and museums, excellent shops and boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Close to our house are three large parks with playgrounds, one also including a swimming lake. There is also a very nice and big zoo close by. There are forests around the city and lovely biking routes through those, along canals and rivers. By train, one can easily reach bigger cities, namely Brussels (30 minutes), Antwerp (20 minutes) and Leuven (30 minutes). A bit futher away, but still doable by train or car are the beautiful cites of Gent, Bruge and the sea side. Furthermore, the beautiful nature and towns of Wallonia are reachable by car in a couple of hours, as well as a few cities in the Netherlands like Maastricht and Rotterdam.

Open, social and creative people who love cooking, biking, climbing and reading

We believe in the importance of good personal relations, solidarity and sharing, which is why we live in a cohousing, and find it important to keep our ecological footprint small, to which our almost energy neutral house contributes. We try to raise our kids with these values as well. We believe in the importance of education and curiosity, that is why we are academic researchers. We like traveling and new adventures, experiencing new cultures and like the concept of Intervac also so much because of its more sustainable way of traveling and meeting new people.
