House in Hohenems, Rhine Valley, Vorarlberg, Austria

As it is our second home we can put up guests all over the year. We ourselves have only rather limited periods of time to travel and stay in an exchange home: So we would also offer our house for rent. We also find non-simulataneous exchanges with other members' second homes quite attractive! (Further options include hosting people in our first home in South-Eastern Styria)
Our house is situated in Hohenems near the Swiss border. It is convenient for arriving by car on the Austrian as well as the Swiss motorway as well as by train as the railwaystation is quite near.
The nearest airports are Friedrichshafen and Memmingen for Ryanair and otherwise Zurich and Munich
The railway station and a small supermarket are within walking distance (less than a 10 minutes’ walk).
The house has room enough for large families. There is a “parents’ bedroom” (room with a balcony) with a toddler bed (for up to five-year olds) on the second floor and there is also a small but sunny one-bed room on the same floor. For further or different demands there are two more rooms: the middle room (also with balcony) on the second floor that can be called a " bedsitter" with a with a pull-out double bed and a room on the first floor that can accommodate 3 children (or even 4 if necessary).
2 high chairs, a potty, a - somewhat dated - buggy pram (stroller)  and  some toys are also available
There are bathrooms with toilets on each floor. The washing machine is in the bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is rather spacious and well equipped (dishwasher)
The living-room – though a bit old-fashioned- has digital satellite TV with a DVD player
There is another satellite TV in the bedsitter on the second floor.

There is some garden furniture, a table-tennis table and 4 bicycles for adults (one of them with an attachable children’s bike).
Equipped with an automatic central heating the house is also suitable for winter holidays.

The historical market town of Hohenems (432m sea level, 15000 inhabitants) is situated in the centre of the Rhine valley of the province of Vorarlberg where the so-called “Upper Land” and the “Lower Land” meet .
Hohenems offers a number of interesting things to see and cultural events to enjoy.

Hohenems is situated in the centre of the Austrian part of the Rhine valley in the province of Vorarlberg. One-day excursions all over Vorarlberg, the bordering parts of Switzerland (Appenzell, St Gallen, Zürich), to the miniature state of Liechtenstein and of course to the area around Lake Constance (shared between Switzerland, Germany and Austria)
Hohenems has public open air swimming baths including both swimming pools and a tributary of the River Rhine suitable for swimming.
The Rhine Valley is also suitable for hiking and cycling tours. A cycling tour to Bregenz at Lake Constance can be done as a one-day excursion.
The Renaissance Palace of Hohenems as a rare example of this style in Western Austria and the places of Vorarlberg’s only Jewish community (villas, synagoge, cemetery) as well as the Jewish Museum, that tells the history of this once flourishing community

can be recommended to visitors with an interest in cultural heritage.
The so-called „Schubertiade“ is an internationally renowned musical event with concerts in Hohenems and another village not far away.
In the time between the middle of July and the middle of August the “Bregenzer Seefestspiele” offer open-air performances of operas.
Skiing is possible in the classical skiing regions of Vorarlberg that can be reached in less than 1h but also – weather permitting - in nearer regions that can be reached more easily (shuttle bus service to the community owned alpine pasture of Hohenems)
There is also an ice rink in Hohenems.
The nearest airports are Friedrichshafen and Memmingen for Ryanair or otherwise Zurich or Munich.
