Country House near Ghent

Our home is situated in the village Landskouter, near Ghent (18km). There is a train station in our village. On weekdays there is a train every hour, in the weekend you have to go one village further up. It takes 15' by train to Ghent, from Ghent you can visit all historical cities (Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Liege,...) and other attractions like our coast, .... Also Paris and Amsterdam are not so far away by train or car. Ghent is a very nice historical city. Ghent is known for the summerfestival in july, a very big city festival, 10 days long every day and night music, animation, street theatre, .... . Of course you can visit the historical cities like Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Luik, . Our coast is 64 km long and very busy, but if you like it, why not. And in the south there are little hills (max 600m) and a lot of walks. In the countryside arround our village you can make beautiful walks and cycling tours, all the maps are available in our home

The house is not big but everything is there : living room, kitchen with all equipment, bathroom with shower, two toilets (one in bathroom, one on the first floor), a bedroom with a double bed (1.80 x 2m) and a bedroom with a single bed on the first floor. Then a "mezanine" (open place on second floor) with a double bed (1.60 x 2m) on the second floor. We have an ecological garden of 800m2, with a little pond and couple of fishes. Everything is at your disposure : garage, barbecue, garden furniture, bikes (unless we can take them with us on the holiday), toys,  fire-place,...
The only thing we do not have is cable television. Though we have a chrome caster, so you can see television by internet. There is a DVD player, you can see films as much as you like. The PC is on the first floor. We have a lot of music and books in the house, also monopoly, scrabble, uno and a lot of other games.
If you want more information, please get in contact, we will provide answers to your questions.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Brussels Airport -

Surroundings : the village of Landskouter is very quiet. There are no shops, no pubs. But 4-5 km away there are shops and everything you need in the villages Scheldewindeke, Melle, Oosterzele, Merelbeke. Ghent is 18 km by car and 15' by train, Ghent is a major city, of course you find everything there.
In our street you can start marked cycle routes (2) and you can start beautiful walks.

Landskouter is the first entrance to the "Flemisch Ardens", a hilly region with lots of possibilities to walk and cycle, drive arround, visiting historical attractions, drinking a glass on cosy cafe-terras, ...

We have lovely neighbourghs who are used to the fact that "strangers" live in our house and they want to help where needed.

For description of other possibilities in Belgium : see text house.

Lifestyle

We are very interested in gardens, books, food, meating people, cycling, photography, ecological lifestyle, movies, ....
We like travelling and have seen already a lot of countries. We went for house-exchange five times and really like it. In 2012 two people from Canada (76 + 77 years old !) did homesit on our house without a car, it is possible, but it is more comfortable with a car. In 2013 a family from Switserland with two children enjoyed their stay in our house. In 2014 two Dutch sisters stayed for a week and a Danish couple stayed for three weeks. In 2015 we did an exchange with a man from Amsterdam. In 2018 we did an exchange with a family from Canada, car included. They had a baby and we provided all gear necessary from friends.
But before we started with house exchange, every year we went on vacation someone known or unknown came house-sitting, so our house is open for guests.
