Large farmhouse converted into modern family home
Our spacious, modern family home is part of a recently converted farmhouse (ca. 1830-1850), surrounded by lakes for swimming, sailing, fishing and forrests for mountain biking, walking and related recreational activities. It is located in a quiet village, in the eastern part of the Netherlands, so conveniently located to explore all famous toursitic spots in the Netherlands, as well as places of interest in Belgium and in the western part of Germany.
The house is about 250 sq. meters and also offers a 350 sq. meter private back garden. There are 4 bedrooms: one of the bedrooms is the master bedroom with oversized double bed (180 x210). Three of the bedrooms are currently in use by the kids (one of the rooms with an additional full size guest bed). In the attic, Sander's home office is located, with possibility for another one or two inflatable single beds.
The main living area consists of three sections, one of which is the dining room. The other two are connected as a open plan space, with a wood fire place, and separate children’s playing area. In the large fully equipped kitchen, there is another large dining table for 6-8 people.
The back garden offers a main terrace with large dining table (8 pers), a smaller terrace with lounge set and fire place, a trampoline (with a 4.25 meter diameter) and a wooden climbing frame with multple swings. The fronr garden has an additional small terrace with pucnic table. All three terraces are equipped with a large free hamging sunscreen.
Within a 5-10 minutes walking distance of our house, you will find plenty of possibilities for water activities, like swimming (secured beach area available) and sailing.
Since our village is at a remote location with no shops, you will need a car for daily shopping (just a few km away) and to explore the surrounding area. We have two cars, the smallest of which (currently a Citroën C3) is available for your convenience as well, should you need it. In case of an exchange that involves flying, instead of going buy own car, our primary car (currently a Renault Espace V - 7-seater) is available for exchange.
We do have two cat, Pinkie and Pardoes. We don't allow the cats into the house and therefore they need very little attention. Just some food and fresh drinking water. Should you prefer to leave the house for more than a day, there is always a neighbor available to take care of the cats during your absence.
We will treat your home with care as if it were our own!
Should you intend to come by plane: There are several international airports within 30-90 minutes by car. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport (in the Netherlands) and Düsseldorf International Airport (in Germany) are major international hubs, served by many Eropean and non-European airlines. Even Frankfurt International Airpoty (in Gemrnay may be considerd as an interesting option for flights arriving from outside Europe. Eventhough it is about 3 hrs from our home, flight to/from Frankfurt tend to be more frequent, a bit cheaper, and with more options to choose from. Smaller international airports like Eindhoven Airport and Maastricht/Aachen Airport (both in the Netherands) and Düsseldorf/Weeze (Niederrhein) Airport (in Germany) are served by low-cost European carriers, like Ryanair, EasyJet and Wizzair
Although there is plenty to see, do and experience in the Netherlands, you may want to visti some cities in Belgium and Germany as well. Brussels, Antwerp, Bruged and Ghent in Belgium are within 2-3 hrs drive. Köln and Münster in Germany are with 1.5-2 hrs drive.

About Our Family
We are a family of five.
- Deirdre is an opera singer with domestic and international performances.
- Sander works for a pharmaceutical company.
- Floran (04-2011), Josephina (05-2012) and Querijn (07-2013) are lively kids who enjoy playing together or exploring the surrounding area on their own.
Lifestyle
We are a family of five and all enjoy being outside in the garden and spending a lot of time in nature and on the lake surrounding our home. For our holidays we try to find a balanced mix of village/urban area and nature/wild life. A favorite holiday destination for our family is Umbria (Italy), where Deirdre's parents have a holiday home. It feels like our second home.
Deirdre has been doing Intervac exchanges with her family since she was a young kid. As a couple we started our own Intervac experience in 2007 and we have done at least one exchange per year ever since, within NL, the EU and the US. Some memorable exchanges outside the Netherlands include: Italy (2007), Ireland (2008), New York (2008), Belgium (2009), New York (2009), Paris (2014), London (2015), Finland (2018), UK (2019), France (2019), Sweden (2023).
Besides doing Intervac exchanges, we also like to go camping, either with our family sized heavy-duty De Waard tunnel tent or with two lightweight back-to-basic tents.
Other activities:
Deirdre - Yoga and outdoor swimming (year round)
Sander - Golf
Floran - Soccer, fishing and electronic games
Josephina - Jiu Jitsu, and electronic games
Querijn - Indoor climbing, fishing and electronic games
All, except Sander, play one or more instruments: Deirdre plays piano and sax, Floran plays sax, Josephina plays flute and Querijn plays clarinet. We also have a guitar and yookelille, which are most used by the kids.
