Clausthal-Zellerfeld is located in the upper harz mountains. Nobel Prize winner Robert Koch and wire rope inventor Julius Albert are part of the town's history as it its' important mining history, the famous Technical University, the exciting biathlon and the beautiful Harz countryside.
The centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Oberharz Water Management" Clausthal-Zellerfeld is famous for its great mining history, which you can learn about in the Oberharz Mining Museum
The lively mountain farmers' market in Zellerfeld, which takes place every Thursday from June to October, offers farmers' market in Zellerfeld typical regional products and handcrafts. The variety of events in the town ranges from entertaining folklore events to the sporting Oberharz Sled Dog Adventure to the musical HarzClassix Festival.
For day trips the UNESCO World Heritage City "Goslar" is recommended with its middle aged architecture and the "Kaiserpfalz". We can also recommend Wernigerode and Quedlingburg. If you like hiking you should visit the highest mountain in middle Germany: der Brocken (this is where Goethes Faust takes place). Of course, Goethe was everywhere, but he was also on the Brocken ;-). It is also to visit via steam locomotive, which is an adventure in itself.

Open minded, interested in culture
Although I am retired I am still very busy with volunteering for the local museum (Bergwerksmuseum) and helping my daughter and her husband with their three, lovely young children who live an hour away. As my family made very good experience with house swapping I would like to start is as well.
I am looking for some well deserved holidays in and not too sunny and hot area with my partner who would travel with me. As I am retired I am quite flexible and open for any requests.
