For our winter stay we would prefer a city in Scandinavia or central/north Europe. London is always on top on of our wish list!
|July 01, 2020 - August 23, 2020||2 weeks|
Unfortunately we are not able to exchange summer 19 due to family obligations. However, from 18.02.20-26.02.20, and summer 2020 we are ready to exchange again:)
Interested in a trip to the land of the northern lights and the midnight sun?
We are a family of 4 that live in a 115 m2 apartment with a nice view towards downtown Tromsø and surroundings. There are 3 bedrooms and a nice veranda and a garden. Nice neighbors and a quiet neighborhood. 10 minutes walk from downtown. Public transportation (buses) in Tromsø run frequently and close to our flat, so a car is not required. The flat can accommodate six people.
The flat holds all modern amenities including Wi-Fi.
For wintertime tourists we can offer one of the best, if not the best, region to view the Aurora Borealis, and a city that is on CNNs top ten list of best winter destinations. During summer this is an eldorado for people who enjoy easy access to mountains and fjords as well as the comforts of a city.
We would be very grateful if our exchange partners could look after our cat Pisil. She's very friendly and independent and requires nothing more than dry food and water. She loves being petted, so that would be nice too, but it's optional.
We're open for most destinations during summer and places with direct flights to Tromsø during winter. As we have children aged 10 and 12 we would prefer easy access to shops and some activities for kids. Some sun would also be greatly appreciated, but not a must. We also normally spend our vacation with the childrens very fit grandmother, so she has travelled with us on several of our exchanges.
We had a lovely exchange in Switzerland in 2013, and one in Paris and one in Jaen in 2014. In 2015 we also had wonderful exchanges in England and Sweden. Christmas 2015 we also had a nice exchange with Barcelona. We also had a stay in USA in 2016, and Sweden in 2017. We are hoping for equally satisfying experiences in the future.

Tromsø is the biggest city in the nothern part of Norway, with roughly 70,000 inhabitants. There are direct flights from Oslo with a duration of 1h 50minutes. Our flat is appr. 10 minutes from the airport by car.
Tromsø can offer countless opportunities for outdoor activities in an arctic environment as well as shopping and attractions within a radius of 1- 10 kilometers. Among its most popular attractions are The Arctic Experience center Polaria, The Arctic cathedral and The cable car.
CNN praises Tromsø as, not only one of the world's best sites for watching the northern lights (http://edition.cnn.com/2013/11/20/travel/best-northern-lights/), but also one of the ten best cities for a winter vacation (http://edition.cnn.com/2013/11/25/travel/winter-cities/index.html?hpt=hp_c5). We are also interested in shorter home exchanges during the winter time, so feel free to contact us!
When it comes to outdoor activities we can recommend hiking in spectacular mountains that range from easy to advanced. At sea Tromsø can offer all from the spa boat Vulkana and kayaking to traditional fishing trips. And most important of all: during the summer the sun never sets. The Midnight Sun's magical light is a unique experience that everyone ought to experience at least once. During the wintertime Tromsø is one of the best sites in the world to see the Northern lights.
Shopping is also possible and Tromsø has one of the countries largest malls. Jekta shopping mall is 65.000 square meters and holds a variety of stores.

You may also visit beautiful, scenic Senja. Norway's second largest island is only 50 minutes by car and a short ferry ride from Tromsø: http://www.destinasjonsenja.no/index.php/en/ and http://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en/routes/senja ).
