House by the seaside, less than 1 hour from central London

Our house dates from around 1900 and is in a pretty and lively historical fishing town on the Thames Estuary not too far from central London (50 minutes by train). The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional toilet.
The accommodation is arranged on three floors - on the top floor are two bedrooms, one with a single bed and the other with a double.
On the middle floor is the master bedroom, with a 160cm bed and ensuite shower room with shower, toilet and washbasin.  Also on this floor is the family bathroom which has a bath with shower over, a toilet and washbasin and another bedroom that we use as an office with a double sofabed.

On the ground floor we have a spacious lounge with large TV, a kitchen dining room which comes equipped with all the usual appliances including a dishwasher, microwave and a washer/dryer.
Outside we have a small garden with a table and chairs for eating outside.

We have two lovely cats who don't like to be moved, so we are grateful to our home exchange partners for feeding them. They eat dry food and have their own cat door to let themselves in and out so don't need much looking after. We can ask our neighbours to feed them if you plan to go away for a few days during the exchange.

Our Neighbourhood

We live in a lovely residential street in Leigh on Sea, in the county of Essex.  Leigh on Sea is a pretty and lively fishing town within the district of Southend-on-Sea – the closest seaside resort to London (50 minutes by train to the centre of London) with lots to do for all ages.  We live a couple of minutes walk from the water’s edge (the Thames Estuary), where many local people take a daily dip in the water - some do it all year round! To get to some decent beaches is a 10 minute walk along the water’s edge.  Within a stone’s throw of the house we have the main street in Leigh – with too many restaurants, cafés, coffee shops and bars to mention as well as many little boutiques, art galleries and convenience stores.  Whatever you need you will be able to get it in Leigh.

A short bus or train ride away (the bus stop is maybe 50 meters from our front door) is the resort town of Southend on Sea, which is a typical English seaside town with many attractions for children, including an amusement park. Check out www.oldleigh.com  and www.visitsouthend.co.uk for some more information – also, a google image search for leigh-on-sea throws up some nice pictures.
Many people in Leigh commute into central London to work - our train line is the busiest commuter line in the UK.  This means that it is very easy to take day trips into London to see all the attractions.  The train station is 10 minutes walk from our house, trains run around 4 times an hour to and from London until late at night and you can be in the heart of London in around 1 hour from leaving the house.
